Assertive communication can be the key to enhancing processes within your company and in this article you will understand why! To start the conversation: what does it mean to have assertive communication? When we talk about communication, it is natural that we associate it with external communication, such as with your company's customers, for example. Which is not wrong, however, have you ever thought that improving internal communication could be the beginning of a big change? So it is! Assertive communication is when you can communicate clearly and efficiently, ensuring that everyone involved truly understands the information provided. And taking care of this aspect within a team means taking care of the quality of the work. ASSERTIVE COMMUNICATION X AGGRESSIVE COMMUNICATION X PASSIVE COMMUNICATION It is common to confuse assertive communication with aggressive communication. This is because when talking about assertiveness, we also think about objectivity, but sometimes the most objective way is not always the most assertive, as it can end up being perceived in a crude way, which is not part of assertiveness. But just accepting a situation to avoid conflicts is also not considered assertiveness, but rather passivity.

Assertiveness, then, we can say is between number database aggressiveness, which is the defense of one's own desire, and passivity, which is the constant acceptance of the desires of others. Example of passivity, aggressiveness and assertiveness in communication: Situation: You bought a product at the market and only realized it was out of date when you got home. PASSIVITY: Being frustrated at not being able to use the product, but just discarding it in the trash.  Returning to the market and causing a scandal saying that you will sue the establishment and will never go back there again.  Go back, talk to the person in charge and politely ask them to exchange it for a product within its expiration date.  Without the use of assertive communication, the entire work of a team can be compromised, after all, if information is passed on in the wrong way, work can be carried out without meeting initial expectations, generating rework, waste of time, in some cases cases waste of money and even conflicts and frustrations among professionals.

In the opposite case, when using assertive communication as an ally, the workflow can be optimized, contributing to the reduction of errors and consequently speeding up the delivery of work. There are some ways to put assertive communication into practice: practicing active listening, through negotiation, arguing, developing your emotional intelligence and asking for feedback. Active listening: listening can be as important as speaking! When we communicate, we need to be careful not to be the only person with a voice. Listening to what others have to say is important, as it shows respect and allows you to understand someone else's side. Negotiate: flexibility in negotiation is a key point in reaching a solution that is beneficial to both parties involved. Argue: not everyone will always agree with our ideas, so it is important to argue in defense of them using logic with the aim of making the proposal better accepted. Emotional intelligence: conflicts canand, at this moment, it is important to know how to maintain control to enable a healthy and constructive relationship between the team. Feedback: Using feedback is a great strategy to ensure that the recipient of the message understood what was said.
