We will invest R$350 million in infrastructure; Northeast will house new international hub
We announced, this Tuesday (20), the investment of around R$350 million for the construction and modernization of operational centers and renovation of Post Office branches throughout the country. The initiative marks the resumption of the state-owned company's investments in infrastructure, a of the priority strategic projects announced by the executive board in May this year, in the balance of 100 days of the current administration.
Among the ongoing Phone Number List actions is the construction of an international hub in the Northeast, a region that receives around 23% of the international orders we deliver in Brazil. Based on technical studies, we defined that the logistics hub will be built in Natal (RN). The state of Rio Grande do Norte proved to be the most suitable place to become our international distribution center for all states in the Northeast. In Brasília (DF), we will build a modern operational complex to house treatment operations, in addition to an integrated logistics center. With more than 40 thousand m2 of built area, the building will house a parcel sorting machine with the capacity to process 300 thousand objects per day; a 700% increase compared to manual treatment. ![]() The works for the renovation of more than 400 post offices in several Brazilian states have also been tendered this year. The forecast is that all more than 6 thousand units in the Correios' own network will be renovated in the next three years. In addition to injecting resources into regional and local economies, construction and modernization projects at our operational units will generate direct and indirect jobs, benefiting society as a whole. Sustainability – In line with the commitment of the Federal Government and companies around the world to adopt initiatives based on the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) agenda, all future works by the state-owned company will follow sustainability and accessibility guidelines. In the case of the Brasília (DF) complex, Correios will deliver to society an accessible and sustainable building, with photovoltaic panels that generate electricity by capturing sunlight, and an intelligent air conditioning system, allowing to reduce expenses related to electricity bill and contributing to environmental sustainability. The building will also be made with materials that optimize the use of natural light and isolate the ambient temperature, reducing the need for the use of air conditioning and artificial lights. It is estimated that these systems will provide savings of R$1.5 million per year on the complex's electricity bill. |
